An eSIM (embedded SIM) is a digital SIM card that is built directly into your phone, eliminating the need for a physical SIM card. This technology allows users to download and activate the service simply by scanning the QR code provided by SmarTone without inserting a physical SIM.
What are the benefits of using an eSIM?
Since eSIMs do not require a physical slot or tray for insertion, users do not have to worry about losing or damaging the physical SIMs. In the event your device is lost or stolen, your eSIM cannot be transferred to another handset, preventing unauthorised access.
Can eSIM and physical SIM be used simultaneously?
The eSIM and physical SIM have different phone numbers and can be used at the same time on a single device.
How do I activate or install an eSIM?
iPhone Users:
1. Go to Settings > Mobile Service
2. Select Add eSIM
3. Select Scan QR Code
4. Scan the QR code provided by SmarTone
Android Users:
1. Go to Settings > Select Connections > SIM Management
2. Select Add eSIM
3. Select Scan QR Code
4. Scan the QR code provided by SmarTone
Can I transfer my eSIM between phone with different operating systems (e.g., iPhone and Android)?
No. Once activated, the eSIM cannot be directly transferred to another device. To continue using the same mobile number and service plan on a different phone, please visit SmarTone stores. A handling fee of HK$50 applies.
Can I switch to a physical SIM after using an eSIM?
Yes. Simply visit SmarTone stores to request a SIM card placement (handling fee: HK$50). The eSIM on your device will be removed and you can insert the new physical SIM.
