Yes, you can still receive the alerts whether you’re in Hong Kong or overseas.
After receiving a suspicious SMS, do not click on any links or provide any personal information. Verify the authenticity of the message via the official channels.
If you have enabled spam message filtering, your phone will automatically classify the suspicious messages as spam and will not notify you of these messages. In this case, you may receive our suspicious message alert without finding the actual message in your inbox. You can locate the message by following the steps below.
For Android users with Google Messages
Suspicious messages are automatically stored in the Spam & Blocked folder
For iOS users with Data Guard enabled
Suspicious messages are automatically stored in the Junk Messages
When a message is sent to a customer, the system needs time to verify it against our real-time database. As a result, there may be a slight delay in sending the alert.
As scammers continue to change sender IDs and messages to evade detection, we utilise big data to collect, analyse and detect suspicious messages. Despite our near real-time updates to our database, we cannot guarantee the identification of all suspicious messages. We encourage customers to report all suspicious messages to help the system more effectively identify them, further reducing the risk of falling victim to scams.
Even though the SMS appears to be from a registered sender ID, scammers can sometimes spoof or impersonate them to send fraudulent messages. To protect you from potential scams, we will send alerts whenever we detect any suspicious activity.
All alerts will be identifiable by the registered sender ID “#SmarTone”.
SmarTone will only analyse the sender IDs and will not review the content of the messages. No personal data will be collected, stored, processed or used.
This service is designed to safeguard you against scams by alerting you to suspicious SMS. If you are looking for an added layer of protections that blocks suspicious links, we recommend subscribing to Data Guard. Please click here for details.
