SmarTone Challenge

The SmarTone Challenge is a core staff development programme and an annual highlight for the Company. More than 400 employees from across Hong Kong, Guangzhou and Macau join in each year and more join all the time.

It is also a great way for us to give back to the community. In 2015, we raise fund for Principal Chan Free Tutorial World. The organisation provides free learning support to the underprivileged children who have financial difficulties through one-to-one tuition, playgroups, small group learning classes, talent development classes and extra-curricular activities. With the fund raised, advanced mobile devices and mobile broadband service will be available to their centres, so that underprivileged children can have access to internet to enrich their knowledge and widen their horizons.

From 2007 to 2014, we raised funds for the Hong Kong Award for Young People (AYP), through the SmarTone AYP International Exchange Programme Fund which helps young people take part in AYP international exchange programmes. During the period, close to HK$2.3 million was raised for the fund.

SmarTone Challenge activities include orienteering, kayaking, abseiling and mountain biking. Apart from testing participants' mental and physical strength, the SmarTone Challenge also aims to spark enthusiasm, equip staff with an inquisitive mind and help build team spirit, to reflect the company's core values. We believe in making each day better than the last, challenging the status quo, and doing things differently.

To prepare participants for these challenges, the Company offers a series of training activities a few months prior to the competition. These include physical preparation, an "intelligence quest" and team-building programmes, as well as kayaking and orienteering skills training.
